Student Pass (Visa) Process
Families from outside Malaysia are warmly welcome at Rochford's International School by Rochford's Education. We are approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) to enrol international students. Every non-Malaysian student needs a valid Student Pass from the Immigration Department of Malaysia to study with us. Our admissions team handles the applications with you, step by step.
Making Overseas Documents
Valid in Malaysia
Malaysia is not part of the Apostille Convention, so documents issued overseas, especially the birth certificate, parents' marriage certificate and any custody or adoption papers, usually need to be legalised before Immigration will accept them.
Certify at home
Get official or certified copies from the issuing authority in your home country, and have them notarised or authenticated there where required. Documents not in English or Malay need a certified translation.
Embassy authentication
If you are still overseas, have them authenticated by the Malaysian embassy or high commission in your home country. If you are already in Malaysia, use your own country's embassy or high commission in Malaysia instead.
Wisma Putra (if requested)
Some documents may also need endorsement by the Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) in Putrajaya. This is usually done on the same or the next working day. We will confirm whether you need this before you spend time or money on it.
Documents to
Prepare
Timelines vary by nationality, time of year and how complete the documents are. Our admissions team will guide you through every form and keep you updated at each stage.
π¬ WhatsApp +60 10-253 9817Please note: immigration and education requirements, fees and processing times can change. They are given here as a general guide only. Before you travel or make payments, please check the latest requirements with the Immigration Department of Malaysia and the Malaysian embassy or high commission in your country.
Types of visa in Malaysia
There is no single βMalaysia visaβ. The right pass for your family depends on who is studying, who is working and how long you plan to stay. Here are the passes our international families use most, each with a link to the official government page.
Student Pass
Every non-Malaysian child studying with us needs a Student Pass from the Immigration Department of Malaysia. For school-age pupils the application goes to Immigration, and our admissions team guides you through it step by step.
Guardian Pass (Social Visit Pass)
A parent, legal or adoptive parent, or grandparent can apply for a long-term Social Visit Pass to live in Malaysia with a child who holds a school Student Pass. It is applied for once the Student Pass is approved, and guardians on this pass may not work or run a business.
Social Visit Pass & Entry Visa
Many nationalities can visit Malaysia without a visa and receive a Social Visit Pass on arrival, while others need a visa or eVISA before travelling. Most foreign visitors must also submit a free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within 3 days before arriving.
Employment Pass
For parents taking up a job with a company in Malaysia. The employer applies through the Immigration Department's Expatriate Services Division, and the pass can last up to five years depending on the contract. Highly skilled professionals may later qualify for TalentCorp's 10-year Residence Pass-Talent.
Dependant Pass
The spouse and children under 18 of an Employment Pass holder can join them on a Dependant Pass, which the employer applies for and which lasts as long as the Employment Pass. Older children and parents can apply for a Long-Term Social Visit Pass instead.
DE Rantau Nomad Pass
Run by MDEC for remote workers and freelancers earning from employers or clients outside Malaysia (at least USD 24,000 a year for tech roles, USD 60,000 for others). It lasts 3β12 months and can be renewed once; a further extension was announced in Budget 2027, with details still to be published. Children need a Student Pass to attend school.
Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)
A long-stay programme from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, with passes of 5, 15 or 20 years depending on the tier. It requires a fixed deposit and the purchase of a home in Malaysia (from RM600,000), and dependent children may study here.
Premium Visa Programme (PVIP)
An Immigration Department programme offering a pass of up to 20 years, with permission to work, study and invest, and no requirement to buy property. Entry requirements are high, including a RM200,000 participation fee for the main applicant, and applications are made through authorised agencies.
Not sure which pass fits your family? Our admissions team is happy to talk it through with you.

What we believe
Every Child Has Value
βThere is no such thing as a useless child. Every child is born with great value in itself.β

We believe that too. Every child who joins us is valued equally and welcomed as they are. We place each one by competency and readiness, not age, then coach them step by step to discover their strengths, grow in confidence and succeed.
